Food & Essentials

Groceries, gleaned fruit, beds, workwear and urgent help with bills: real things for real need, given with an open hand (Deuteronomy 15:11).

“Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house?”
(Isaiah 58:7)

The poor & those in need

Meet real need quickly and generously, in deed and in truth (1 John 3:17–18).

Scriptural basis

Deuteronomy 15:7–11; Isaiah 58:7; Galatians 2:10; James 2:15–17

Class I: explicit command.

What we do

  • A practical-needs desk for short-term crises
  • Groceries, clothing, transport and household essentials
  • Help with utility emergencies and small urgent bills
  • Goods, vouchers and helping hands first; cash only where it is truly best

Who serves

  • Assessors
  • Drivers
  • Shoppers
  • Furniture movers
  • Tradespeople
  • Benefits helpers
  • Benevolence stewards

Our commitment. Help is never conditioned on faith, church attendance or repayment (Luke 6:35).

Hunger, food & gleaning

Get good food to hungry people (Isaiah 58:10), including the fruit that would otherwise fall unpicked in Orange County gardens (Leviticus 19:9–10).

Scriptural basis

Isaiah 58:7, 10; Matthew 25:35; Leviticus 19:9–10; Ruth 2

Class I: feeding the hungry is explicit. The delivery system is Class III.

What we do

  • Grocery help and meal teams for particular crises
  • Collecting surplus food
  • County-wide gleaning: harvesting unused backyard fruit (Ruth 2:2)
  • Delivering harvests to households and established food pantries

Who serves

  • Harvest teams
  • Drivers
  • Food-safety leads
  • Grocery teams
  • Collection coordinators
  • Pantry liaisons

Our commitment. Where food pantries already serve well, we bring them hands and harvests as fellow workers (1 Corinthians 3:9).

Clothing, furniture & household goods

Match surplus clothing and furniture to genuine need, quickly (Luke 3:11).

Scriptural basis

Isaiah 58:7; Luke 3:11; Matthew 25:36; James 2:15–16

Class I for providing necessary clothing. Class III for the collection and delivery system.

What we do

  • An inventory and rapid-response collection network
  • Workwear and interview clothing
  • Beds, basic furniture and baby equipment
  • Household essentials delivered where they are needed

Who serves

  • Collection drivers
  • Sorters
  • Storage coordinators
  • Delivery teams
  • Referral coordinators

Our commitment. Your abundance supplies another’s need (2 Corinthians 8:14). We are not a resale business, and we keep only what is useful.

Debt & money trouble

Stop small money troubles becoming homelessness, family breakdown or predatory borrowing (Proverbs 22:7).

Scriptural basis

Deuteronomy 15:7–11; Proverbs 22:7; Romans 13:8

Class II for mercy, prudence and avoiding crushing debt. Budgeting help is Class III.

What we do

  • Budgeting help and organising creditors
  • Help finding and applying for support
  • Emergency benevolence where justified
  • Referral to qualified debt and legal advisers

Who serves

  • Budget coaches
  • Paperwork helpers
  • Qualified advisers

Our commitment. We seek wise counsel (Proverbs 15:22): volunteers never give regulated legal, tax or investment advice unless qualified.

Serve in Food & Essentials.

Whatever gift you have received, use it to serve others, as good stewards of God’s varied grace (1 Peter 4:10).
